University of Pécs, Medical School, Hungary
The University of Pécs is the largest higher educational institutions in Hungary with around 35,000 students at ten faculties (including more than 1000 foreign students at the Medical School alone). The Medical School is not only a site of students on various fields of health sciences but also an outstanding centre for regional health care education and research. The mission is to bridg the gap between scientific research and everyday practice by training highly qualified professionals. The high quality research at the Medical School is international recognized; more than 50 PhD programmes are accredited. Chair of Clinical Infectology and Migration Health at the University of Pécs was established in 2005 to act as main facilitator of this new emerging disciple called migration health in Hungary. Since then strong academic and political links have been established across Europe to strengthen cooperation among partners across. This is a new disciplinary study which is very rare in Europe and the department at Pécs has the most comprehensive expertise in this field. By its virtue, this department is the main facilitator in this project and taking the role of applicant and coordinator. In 2007 University of Pécs, in partnership with IOM applied successfully for DG SANCO grant and has started implementing the project entitled Increasing public health safety along the new Eastern European EU borders.
